Helping Out With Sheltie Rescue
There are many sheltie dogs that are mistreated every day. Many of them are homeless and malnourished. No they are not the only breed out there that are being treated this way. There are many people out there that are willing to help and take these dogs in their home and feed them and love them. They are called sheltie rescue. There are so many people that don’t realize how much work it is to have a dog, or how much money it could cost them, so they rush out and buy a dog without doing any research. Then once they get the dog and they have them for a while, they realize how much money it’s costing them. Either that or they just feel like they don’t want the dog any more. Many people just drop their dogs off at the animal shelter instead of taking the time to find their dog a good home with good owners.
There are many states where people start their own sheltie rescue shelter. They look for the sheltie dogs in animal shelters, on the streets and from owners who don’t want their dogs anymore. It is all volunteer work, they get no money for what they do. They cover the expenses of the dog food and vet costs buy the money they get when the dogs are adopted. They find other volunteers to help out and become a foster home for the dog while they try and find permanent homes for the shelties.
There is an application process that needs to be done when someone wants to adopt a dog. There are many questions that are asked to ensure the sheltie rescue volunteers that the dog is going to good owners that will take care of them. There is also an adoption fee that will be charged. It will vary from different rescue volunteers. It’s most likely not going to be real cheap because that is how they cover the costs of the vet fees from being neutered/spayed. They don’t release any dogs to owners without them first being neutered/spayed.
Thank goodness there are people out there that care about these dogs. They get thrown out by their owners or lost and not taken care of. These people that start the sheltie rescue are doing it on their own time and money. They are doing it because they care and they are trying to help these dogs. If more and more people would start these rescue shelters there would be less stray dogs, and less malnourished dogs.
